THE BEST “YOU” AWAITS!
My name is Aaron Savvy and I am in the best shape of my life. I am an ACSM (American College of Sports Medicine) certified trainer in Los Angeles and my goal is to guide and train you to be the best “YOU” can be. I don’t believe in steroids or enhancers - I believe in mental preparation and hard work.
I come from a very athletic family; my father ran marathons, my brother was the captain of his swim team, and in my younger years I played basketball, baseball and football, as well as boxing on FX’s “Tough Man.”
Although my father was an extraordinarily active man, as the years passed I started to see a change in him, he stopped working out and he stopped eating healthy. As a result he wound up having two open heart bypass surgeries. My brother, the guy with 3% body fat who ran 5 miles a day and who was captain of his swim team also became (and since has been) sedentary. Slowly but surely I too started to feel that drift. So why the change?
When I was younger I refused to settle for average and always pushed myself to perform at the best of my ability - I refused to “settle.” Why now did I feel the need to drift? I began to push myself that much harder in my workouts and nutrition, and yet I still wanted to drift. I couldn’t understand it. My body was telling me to GO, GO, GO and yet my mind was telling me to “stop, who cares!”
I finally opened up the yellow pages one day with the goal of finding a personal trainer. I was hoping to gain some insight as to why I could not stay on course with my fitness and nutrition. My first personal trainer, “Ken”, happened to be a 70-year-old man and was probably the fittest man I had ever met. He had the muscles, the definition and the attitude, and he was 100% natural. Being in his presence made me want to be like him, even though I was the 21 year old and he was the 70-year-old man. I felt like I was Rocky and he was Mickey!
I trained in a small, hole-in-the-wall, musty gym with rusty weights. All the equipment was outdated, and the training approach was “old school”. There was no fluff to my workouts, just tough love, determination and what I call the “it” factor to working out; mental preparation.
Since then, I’ve become a personal trainer, dedicating my life to learning how the body works and mastering the each aspect of fitness.
With that being said, I don’t simply want to give you a workout that you would do and that’s it. You would miss the whole point and most likely fall back into your bad habits. Instead, I will help you create a healthy life-style beginning with the “mental aspect.”
Believe it or not, most people skip the first and most important ingredient of the mental preparation needed to start an effective journey to working out. This is the time that you give yourself that wakeup call and a verbal pep talk acknowledging and reprimanding yourself for your current state of being.
I do not want to hear: I work long days, I have kids or I have to travel, etc. These are negatives or what I like to call the “I feel sorry for myself stage”. Our body is the single most important thing we have, if it breaks down, your job, family and most importantly your health will suffer severely. Instead you are reprogramming yourself and engraving a new, positive “must-do” attitude.
We religiously use this tactic on a daily basis when we wake up, go to the bathroom, shower, brush our teeth, eat, go to work, etc.. Now insert “GO TO THE GYM.” As you do this, going to the gym will become second nature with time. You simply have to do it! You don’t think about it, you don’t question it, you just simply do it.
My personal fitness results did not come over night. It took time and consistency. Nothing worthwhile comes with ease and we all know that. There are thousands of companies that are rich and successful because we fall for their “get in shape quick” schemes and equipment gizmos.
Right now, at this moment, decide to accept and commit into building a new you!
Creating the mental aspect takes constant self coaching. Verbally ask yourself, “What are my physical results going to be if I exercise regularly?” Answer the question in writing and reflect on the results: weight loss, muscle gain, definition, toning, and boost in energy or self confidence. Also focus on how your life will change…you’ll be able to run the marathon you always wanted to run, finally take up snowboarding or simply have enough energy to go out with friends after a long day at work.
So you’ve been out of shape for five plus years? I am going to give you the tools to achieve results in less than a year. So you don’t see a change in a few weeks or even three months? Why get frustrated? You’ve been out of shape for 5 plus years - give yourself a year. Allow your body a chance to react to your new healthy lifestyle. Your body has been going in one motion for a long time. It takes a bit for the body to slow down and then finally go into the direction that you want it to.
Daily steps… Focus on the results… On your goals and just do it! Find things that inspire you; maybe a song, a picture, the list of results, list of goals, etc. - and when you are not “feeling” the gym…look at them, focus on them. Put the song on and get pumped up, look at the picture and imagine you having THAT body and look!
Last but not least, I am your trainer. I expect you to ask me the things pertaining to your fitness goals and desires.
I am here for you and you only.
